Avoid stress while travelling
For me, the fewer unexpected things I encounter on my journey, the better it is. This sounds logical, but it is also about the little things, such as how exactly I can get to the guesthouse, or where I have to report. I know that I am not the only one in this and going well prepared for a journey gives much more peace of mind.
Planning the journey
The fact that there are navigation apps nowadays, such as Google Maps, is a godsend! It is almost impossible to really get lost and if you take a wrong turn, that thing tells you where to go. Still, I already check the route a few times when I am still at home. It is nice to know roughly where you have to go and if necessary you can also look at alternative routes. It can be busy on the road and if the app then recommends a different route, it is easier to decide whether it is a good idea to deviate from the planned route.
This also applies to other means of transport, such as the train. Keep an eye on the travel app for any disruptions and check at home whether you can also reach your destination via other train routes. This will save you stress if something unexpectedly goes wrong on the way.
Book accommodation for the journey in advance
If you know that you do not want to make the outward or return journey in one go, it is best to arrange a place to sleep before you leave. Do this in good time, because they also quickly become fully booked. There are many villages along the motorway where you can often find a few guesthouses.
Plan your arrival
If it is just as important for you to know exactly where you need to be when you arrive, as it is for me, then it is best to check this at home in advance. Sometimes the booking indicates where you need to report and whether there are any special details regarding the location. You can also use a navigation app to see what the house or hotel looks like, where you can park and where the entrance is. You can also orient yourself in the area, in terms of shops for any groceries and a restaurant where you can eat after arrival.
Start packing on time
Getting your suitcase out of the dust in good time and starting packing as soon as you have clothes that you want to take with you is half the battle. Make a list of everything that needs to be taken with you, so that you can tick things off as soon as it is packed. If you suddenly have to wash something, you will have time for it and the chance that you will forget something is smaller if you do not have to do everything at the last minute. You make it much easier on yourself by starting on time.
Good preparation is half the battle and will save you stressful situations on your trip. I definitely recommend it and it often adds to the fun beforehand. Ultimately, you can plan your holiday the way you want, with what you do and don't want to have arranged or sorted out in advance. Do you leave nothing to chance? Or do you also like a bit of freedom to make choices on the spot? Have fun during your holiday in the Alps!
