Hiking route around Obsteig and Mieming
An easy but beautiful walk is the route behind Obsteig to Mieming and then back to Obsteig via a road in between. Walking shoes are not really necessary for this route. On the way back, you climb a bit but that's on the normal road so it shouldn't really have a name.
The starting point is Hotel Stern. For this route, the walking map you can get at Hotel Stern or the tourist office is very useful. Standing with your back to the hotel, turn right into the village, so not towards the main road. Walk until you see a large abandoned hotel, pass it on the right. Follow the footpath initially towards Gschwent. This part of the route takes you through the forest. After a while, the forest gives way to beautiful meadows. Here you can really enjoy the peace and the surroundings. The forest stays on your left and you pass Gschwent on the right. Eventually you arrive in the village of Mieming. When you reach the main street in Mieming, you can choose to go straight back or go to Cafe Maurer where they serve delicious pastries. For Cafe Maurer, you have to turn left. This is still a bit of a walk but it is definitely worth it.
On the way back, initially follow the first stretch back through Mieming until you see a turnoff towards Barwies. Follow this road until you get to Gschwent. In Gschwent, take the Unterstrass towards Obsteig. This road goes up quite steeply and ends just before Obsteig. From here it's a short stretch to the right until you see the Hotel Stern on your right.
