A hidden gem near Obsteig
An easy yet fun hike is the route to the Obsteig waterfall. About 3 kilometres from the village is the Castle Klamm with a waterfall below. Now you can take the main road and then leave the road near the castle but it is much more interesting to take the route via Wald, a hamlet which belongs to Obsteig.
Walk
My starting point in this hike is the Hotel Stern in Obsteig. At the hotel, or if necessary at the tourist office (i) you can get a simple map of the village. It's handy to take this with you. The walk is not difficult but I recommend you put on good walking shoes. Walking in the mountains always requires a slightly different approach than walking through flat areas so sturdy footwear is never out of place. If you are a bit less agile, bring walking sticks. Stand with your back to the hotel. Now you will see a small tunnel running under the main road on the right. This is where you need to go. Our first destination is the hamlet of Wald. Just follow the signs that show you the way to Wald. This first part in itself is a nice walk only a pity you have to walk on the road. Once in Wald, follow the road that leads further into the meadow. At one point the path enters the forest and a little later crosses a stream. Always follow the signs towards Burg Klamm or, if this is already there, the Wasserfall. After a nice walk through the forest, you will arrive at the Burg Klamm castle. Unfortunately, the castle is privately owned, so you cannot visit. Do not cross the bridge, towards the castle, but continue walking along the water. The path now gets a little steeper and tougher. However, the goal of our journey is close at hand, so keep going a little longer. If all goes well, you can already hear the water gurgling down with a lot of noise. After a few turns, you have reached the waterfall.
For the way back, you could take the road via the main road.
