Skiing in Flaine

Flaine Ultimate winter sports in France

Ski holiday Flaine France

If you are used to skiing in Austria then it is different, very different. In Flaine, France it is not about the romance of skiing but about skiing itself. Where in Austria you are immediately embraced by the beautiful and cozy wooden houses, in France you have to make do with more concrete than wood. Why on earth would you go there, I hear you ask? Now for skiing.

Seriously, you can enjoy skiing there. Not like you are used to, walking several hundred meters with your skis on your shoulders until you reach the ski lift. No, you step out of your apartment/hotel and you are actually already on the slopes. Strap on your skis and go. Flaine is a typical French village in the heart of the French Alps. In winter it is highly recommended if you like skiing. Flaine is located about 30 kilometers from Cluses, not so far from Mont Blanc, in the Grand Massif.

A day of winter sports in Flaine

Get up on time because you want to be on the slopes as early as possible. Take the gondola straight up to the top of Les Grandes Platieres at an altitude of 2480 m. If you are lucky, and the visibility is good, you can see Mont Blanc from here. The daredevils throw themselves straight from the top into the deep end and go down the black slope, the diamond noir. If you are a little less sure of your situation, choose the red (still difficult) or the blue route. There are enough green, blue, red and black slopes to keep you entertained. Go to bed on time in the evening and do the same ritual again the next day. Flaine is the perfect winter sports location for avid skiers.
