Cable cars that are definitely worth seeing
Slovenia, the country in the Alps, next to Austria and Italy, among others. A country still not really discovered by mass tourism although more and more people know how to find it. The fact that more and more tourists are coming is more than justified because Slovenia really is an amazingly beautiful country.
Slovenia also has a number of cableways that are definitely worth a visit. Especially in the north you will find the highest mountains and thus you will also find the most cable cars here.
Funicular Ljubljana
Ljubljana Castle towers above Slovenia's capital, Ljubljana. This castle dates back to the 15th century and has had many different functions since then. The castle is one of Slovenia's most important sights.
Since 2006, you no longer have to walk up the mountain to visit the castle, but can use a funicular that takes you to the top. You'll find the valley station in the middle of the old town. From here, the little train will take you to the castle within a minute. The cabin can carry up to 33 people at a time. Of course, you can also reach the castle on foot.
Gondola Pohorska Maribor
Near Maribor, Slovenia's second city, you'll find the Pohorska cable car. This circular cable car will take you from an altitude of 328 metres to the mountain station at 1,042 metres in 8 minutes. The Pohorje area near Maribor is one of Slovenia's largest ski resorts. Besides the cable car, you will find 20 different ski lifts and 42 kilometres of ski slopes.
Vogel cable car
The Vogel cable car takes you from the valley station at 574 metres to the summit at 1,537 metres within 6 minutes. From the Vogel you have a fantastic view of Lake Bohinj. At the top, you also have the option of hiking all the way to the summit. This is a very nice hike.

Kanin cable car
The Kanin cable car can be found in the Soca Valley, near the village of Bovec. The 1973 cable car takes you in stages to an altitude of 2,200 metres. From the valley station at 436 metres, the first stage goes to an altitude of 980 metres. The second stage takes you to 1,649 metres. In the last stage, you go all the way to the summit. The Kanin cable car is a circumferential cable car with gondolas that have a maximum capacity of 4 people.
Although the name of the Kanin is used, the cable car actually heads towards the summit of Prestreljenik at 2,499 metres. The summit of the Kanin, a mountain with a height of 2,587 metres, can only be reached via very rocky paths. So prepare well if this summit is the goal.
Kanin - Bovec is a ski area that runs from Bovec in Slovenia to Sella Nevea in Italy. From Sella Nevea, there is also a cable car heading to Prestreljenik (or Monte Forato in Italian).
