Comfortably and quickly up the Schatzberg
After 32 years of transporting hikers and winter sports enthusiasts to the top of Schatzberg and down again, the old 4-seater gondola in Auffach has been replaced by a new one. The new Schatzbergbahn is not only more comfortable, but also faster and bigger.
The gondolas can accommodate 8 people, allowing more people to be transported during busy periods. In addition, the 912-metre difference in altitude between valley station and mountain station is bridged in 13 minutes.
When the old Schatzbergbahn was built 32 years ago, it was a highlight for the Wildschönau. Indeed, at over 4 km long, this gondola lift was the longest in Austria. This record has since been surpassed, making the 3S-Eisgratbahn in Stubai the longest in the Alps at 4.7 km. The new gondola lift in Auffach is part of the Ski-Juwel ski area, which is among the top 10 largest ski areas in Tyrol. The arrival of the new cable car (in 2012/2013) connecting the Wildschönau with Alpbach made this ski area possible. To cope with the new influx of winter athletes, the new Schatzbergbahn can now carry 2650 people per hour. Previously, it was 1,600 per hour.
Not only has the lift been renewed, but also the valley station and both mountain stations are completely new. There is also a new sports shop in the valley station, where you can get everything related to skiing. The lift is now easily accessible for wheelchair users as well.
The entire undertaking has cost around 18 million euros in total.
