Cabrio-bahn overlooking Mont Blanc
In Tignes, France, the highest and largest convertible gondola in the world has opened. This unique panoramic gondola is located at more than 3,000 metres on the Grande Motte glacier.
View of Mont Blanc
With this luxury cable car, you can climb from 3,032 metres to 3,456 metres and, thanks to the open roof, enjoy panoramic views of the French Alps, such as Mont Blanc, the Aiguille de la Grande Sassière and the Cime de Bellecôte. You can choose to stay in the luxurious closed cabin or go 'on the roof'. There you can see 360 degrees around you during the short 5-minute ride. There is room for 100 people in the cabin and 20 on the roof. There are 2 cabins that carry people up and down several times an hour.
Second cabrio-bahn in the world
This is not the world's first open top gondola. You can experience a smaller version on the Dachtsteiner Glacier in Austria.
Unfortunately, the open top is not accessible during the winter season due to the rapidly changing weather, cold and snowfall.
Tignes
The panorama gondola takes you to the ski area on the glacier. Tignes is located in the Savoie department and falls under the arrondissement of Albertville. This small town is a big draw for winter sports enthusiasts. The Espace Killy ski resort is linked to the better-known Val D'Isère, among others.
Altitude Experiences
This Grande Motte gondola was designed in Switzerland by Garaventa AG and features the very best in comfort and the latest safety technology. The gondola is part of a global project called Altitude Experiences. It starts at the Tignes station at 2,100 metres and ends on the Grande Motte glacier at 3,456 metres.
