The Hechtsee

Hechtsee, great swimming lake in Tyrol near Kufstein - Bergundbahn.com

Tyrol's most beautiful swimming lake

Sometimes you find a place undiscovered by mass tourism. One of those places that you have simply driven past hundreds of times without knowing there is a gem there. This gem in the mountains near Kufstein in Tirol on the Bavarian border is called the Hechtsee. Through Austrian friends we once got the tip to visit the Hechtsee, because you can sunbathe and swim there. You really have to know where to take the road up, because it is quite hidden and before you know it you are driving into Germany.

Kufstein's swimming lake

The Hechtsee is the Kufsteiners' swimming lake. The lake is not that big and the water temperature is pleasant in summer. To get to the lake, you have to pay an entrance fee. Then you can pick a lovely spot on the large lawn or on the wooden risers by the water. A part of the lake is specially cordoned off for children. In this shallow area, children can play with the floating raft or the slide. If you are a good swimmer, it pays to swim to the middle of the lake where a wooden terrace has been built. Here you can quietly enjoy the water and, of course, the mountains.

Eating and hiking

Fancy something to eat at lunchtime? Then you can do so in the adjoining restaurant. Here you can go for a quick snack or an extensive meal.
If you are not a swimmer, you can always walk around the Hechtsee. The path is along the water and the total length of the shore is 2.67 km. So it's not an overly long walk, but on the other side of the lake a surprise awaits you. Overthere you can find a beautiful waterfall, with water coming down from the Hechtsee. Beware, the water stinks! Unfortunately, it has become increasingly crowded at the Hechtsee over the years. More and more tourists and residents know how to find the lake. As a result, the car park is regularly completely full.
